Charles Stanley, a Christian broadcaster whose message reached across the globe, has passed away at the age of 90. The cause of his death is currently unknown.
In Touch Ministries has announced the passing of Charles Stanley, a renowned televangelist who previously served as the leader of the Southern Baptist Convention. He died on Tuesday in his Atlanta residence.
Charles Stanley was born in rural Virginia and served as the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Atlanta for 50 years. Under his leadership, the church grew and relocated to a suburban campus in 1997 to accommodate its expanding congregation.
However, Charles Stanley became widely recognized for his hosting of "In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley," a Christian education program that first aired on the newly established Christian Broadcasting Network in 1978.
As a result of the program's success, a separate nonprofit organization called In Touch Ministries was founded to distribute Stanley's teachings across the United States and the world via radio and television broadcasts.
In Touch Ministries also developed solar-powered audio devices that included the Bible, some of Stanley's sermons, and other resources in over 100 languages. Additionally, Stanley authored over 40 books throughout his lifetime.
