  • 1 cup = all-purpose flour (maida)

  • 1/2 cup =  water

  • 1 tbsp = finely chopped ginger
  • 1 tbsp = finely chopped garlic
  • 1/2 tsp = cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp = coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp = garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp = salt
  • 1/4 tsp = black pepper powder

 How to make vegan momos

  • Add all-purpose flour (maida) and salt into a mixing bowl.
  • Add water slowly and knead the flour until the dough becomes elastic and smooth.
  • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  • Add oil, garlic, and ginger in a separate pan and sauté it until they start to fragrant.
  • Now add the finely chopped vegetables, spices, and salt into the pan and cook them until the vegetables become soft.
  • Make equal size small balls from the dough and roll out each ball into a thin circle, around 3-4 inches in diameter.
  • Place one tablespoon of vegetable filling in the center of each circle and bring all the edges together and press them to seal the momo. It will be like a small pouch.
  • In a steamer basket, steam momos for 10-14 minutes or steam the momos until they become translucent and the filling is thoroughly cooked.

Recipe for chicken momos

Here is an easy-to-follow chicken momos recipe that you can try at home:

Ingredients for dough

  • 2 cups = all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup = water
  • 1/2 tsp = salt

Ingredients for filling

  • 1 cup = ground chicken
  • 1/2 tsp = salt
  • 1/4 cup = chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 tsp = black pepper powder
  • 1/2 tsp = coriander powder
  • 1/2 cup = chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp =  chopped ginger
  • 2 tbsp = chopped garlic
  • 1/2 tsp = cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp = soy sauce

How to make chicken momos

Follow these steps to make chicken momos:

  1. Add all-purpose flour and salt to a mixing bowl. Add water slowly and knead the flour until the dough becomes smooth.
  2. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let rest it for 20 minutes.
  3. Add minced meat into a pan and cook it well.
  4. Add vegetable oil, soy sauce,  ginger, garlic, onion, cilantro, chili powder salt, and spices to the minced meat pan and mixed them well, and sauté them until they are combined well.
  5. Now divide the dough into small equal size balls and roll out them into a thin circle around 3-4 inches in diameter.
  6. Off the heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
  7. Add one tbsp of chicken filling to the center of each circle (dumpling wrapper)
  8. Fold the dumpling wrapper into half and bring all the edges together and press them with your fingers to seal it, which will look like a small pouch. Repeat this process for all dumpling wrappers.
  9. Steam the momos in a steamer basket for 10-12 or until the dough becomes translucent and the filling is cooked fully.

Cheese momos recipe

The cheese momos recipe is very simple and easy to follow. You can try it in your home:

Ingredients for dough

  • 2 cups = all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp = salt
  • 1/2 cup = water

Ingredients for filling

  • 1 cup = shredded or grated cheese (you can use any type of cheese you like)
  • 1/4 cup = chopped scallions
  • 1/4 cup = chopped onion
  • 1/4 tsp = salt
  • 1/4 tsp = black pepper powder

How to make cheese momos

First make the dough

  • In a mixing bowl, mix flour and salt.
  • Add water slowly and knead the dough until it becomes smooth.

  • Place all the momos in a steamer basket and steam them for 10-15 minutes or steam them until the cheese is melted and gooey and the dough becomes translucent.
  • Remove the momos and allow them to cool for a few minutes.
  • Momos are ready now and serve them with spicy dipping sauce. 

Calories of momos

The number of calories in momos are depending on the filling ingredients and the method of cooking.

But according to the general guidelines four vegetable momos provide around 200-250 calories.

Four chicken momos can provide around 250-300 calories.

Cheese momos have more calories as compared to the other momos because the cheese has a high number of calories. Four cheese momos contain around 300-350 calories.

The calorie count will be increased with dipping sauce because dipping sauce has a considerable number of calories.
